Bredonborough Rising a little late

14.58

Bredonborough.

Rising a little late to a wet and blowy morning.

Morning reflection: the Old Standard Tuning of EADGBE. This makes formal sense to me if regarded as a six-string extrapolation of an eight-string tuning – EADGCFBE – of which the fifth and six strings of the eight are omitted. Viewed like this, not an arbitrary tuning at all.

Morning reading…

New ideas emerging that flew by in the night, available to be tested in the day.

In the news: a whistleblower at Mid-Staffs hospital has been awarded a CBE. This sends a message. Let’s hear it for Rough Music.

A lunchtime visit to local pals just off the Market Square I…

Our hosts took excellent care of their visitors, a superb socialising in a room packed with Bredonborough Worthies, and myself. I’m beginning to be known in town, although no one quite knows what I do.

Local Person:    I’d love to hear your playing.
RF:        You’d hate it.

And so they would.

A conversation with a magistrate: I mentioned Archbishop Welby’s comments today that it will take a generation for banks to be trusted again. The date I give to the change in the prevailing morality, of those in positions of responsibility, is February 22nd. 1976; the date that Mr. S.G. Alder, chartered accountant, founding member of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, anticipator of Knighthood for his Good Works, looked me in the eyes and lied: giving me advice directly prejudicial to my own interests yet advantageous to his own. Have I referred to this in the Diary before? I mentioned to the magistrate my belief in Rough Music. In return he told a story of social censure within the gypsy community at a local school, of which he was Deputy Headmaster.

Newses on leaving…
News One: a doctor reported that their practice had been consulted over government plans, of cuts affecting the poor. The doctor’s sense was that this was a political act, rather than a consultation with views taken into account in decision-making..
News Two: the Baptist Church in Bredonborough is opening a food bank in six months time, and is currently in preparation mode.

Pope Francis is praying for a new generation of politicians, reportedly. Where are the politicians, administrators, managers et al, to reconstitute a culture of responsibility in all fields of endeavour and walks of life? Very much like the Improvers of the Victorian Age, but with something different also. Perhaps I should begin writing to newspapers, signing Wittering Old Goat of Bredonborough.

17.25    Off to local pals for their bonfire and fireworks party.

20.25    Arriving c. 18.00 to a wonderful, generous family and close-neighbour socialising. The firework display, set up and operated by our male host without computer-assistance, was outstanding I…
